Alpha Diallo, a Guinean human rights lawyer, has been involved in theater and musical performance since his arrival in the U.S. in 2000. He wrote âThe Wind Blew,â which was performed at the University of Chicago Theater in 2001 as a part of the Antigone Project. As a musician, he explores his musical roots with his band The Princes of Futa. His main source of inspiration comes from the Wolof and Fula cultures of West Africa. Through African beat and jazz, the Princes of Futa try to reconcile modern and traditional African culture while also embracing the musical multiplicity of the U.S. To audiences as varied as those frequenting the Green Mill, Darkroom, Morseland, the Subterranean, and various festivals across Chicago, his songs speak of peace, love, and justice. Alpha Diallo believes that human diversity will lead to a better world, and the Princes of Futa reflect that diversity, which, after all, is what America is all about.
it is never too late to realize a dream. My mom told me that when I was a child I used to dream of being a pilot. When I was a teenager I used to dream of being a musician and singer but I ended up studying law. When I came to the United States I ended up working in a job that had nothing to do with law but I always dreamed of playing music. Today I realize that my dreams are not just about myself but also about the whole world.

Dream come true

I have a dream, a dream of peace, a dream of seeing Jews, Christians, Muslims and people of all faiths come together to pray under one God - the God of peace and justice. I have a dream, a dream that Africans will unite against AIDS and HIV, lay down their guns for the sake of peace and work hand in hand against poverty for a prosperous future. I hay, a dream that in this year your dreams will come true. Tomorrow will be another day and that day will be your day of joy, love and hope. Much love and peace to you and to all your loved ones.
