Cole Williams is the new voice of Progressive Soul. My music is timeless and honest and is the soundtrack to my life. This album is a blend of soulful rhythms and melodic stories that invite you into my world, if only for a moment.
7 MP3 Songs
URBAN/R&B: Contemporary urban, URBAN/R&B: Soul
Details:
Growing up in Brooklyn I didn't always know that I wanted to be a singer, recording artist, whateva'. But I always knew I loved music and I also knew I wanted to become my own boss. I've been compared to everyone from Toni Braxton to Phyllis Hyman to Faith Evans to Lauren Hill.
Ok. So now I'm composing and recording the kind of music that inspires me and all these doors start opening. I was writing with producers Young Lord (Bad Boy) and Gomi (Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey) and singing with so many talented artists. I was blessed to have my song "Anything" chosen for 2 compilation CD's "Paris to Brooklyn" (Relief Records) and "Soul and R&B #21" alongside Kanye West and R. Kelly.( R. Kelly ,yeah we know...). Through a Young Lord gig , I was introduced to the world of West African jazz. I began singing with Ugandan/Rwandan vocalist Somi, who is now one of my favorite giirlz. Fast forward to 2005 I'm in Singapore backing Cameroonian vocalist Kaissa (Sony South Africa) and it hits me. I left college with one year left to graduate. Maybe, now is the time to go back, get my degree in music and wrap my s*&t up in a nice little bow.
So that's where I am now. I'm in school, writing, gigging with acts like Governor (Atlantic), Lisa Lisa (Columbia), Kaissa, Inoki, Albright and Bazaare Royale to name a few while and honing my craft. People always ask me what kind of artist I am or how would I describe my music and I never know how to answer. Come to think of it, I don't think I should answer that question because the moment I do I'll be putting myself in a box. And that's why I left retail. I'll let my music speak for itself. The product of all my experience thus far is "The Basement Sessions", some of my most personal material.
