ROCK: Modern Rock, ROCK: Hard Rock
Details:
Having long abandoned the notions of life and success as dictated to us by a society bent on self destruction, we 5 members of Drift Effect found solace in the extreme ridiculousness and undeniable importance of all the aspects of rock music, from the soft soothing lullabies to the fist pumping heavy riffs. Recognizing that we are currently stuck in the prison that is middle class suburbia and that there are others caught in prisons both similar, different, and much worse elsewhere in the world. We strive to entertain as well as make a point: We were never meant to have our reality dictated to us by our senses and the observations of conformists. There's more going on than you know: And as soon as we as people close our minds, we might as well be dead. The 5 of us managed to come together and are trying to refine a sound that makes you think as well as feel.
And all this without taking our pants off.
Or asking you to, for that matter.
Every emotion and every thought is a part of who you are, from the ludicrously hysterical to the deepest felt rage. Don't compromise that for anything. Especially The Establishment.
Ever.
After 6 months of jamming and conversations in a basement, the band came to the above conclusion. They realized that the music that came out of these sessions was unique. They found middle ground amongst their varied taste in music. Pearl Jam, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Audioslave, Incubus, and the Deftones had inspired them individually, and they had successfully combined these influences into something new and unique. Yet, at the core of the band was a shared ideal: Music has the power to change you. They began playing shows around the Twin Cities. Their crowds grew bigger and people took notice. In July of 2005, they went into record their debut EP at the legendary Pachyderm studios (Nirvana, Soul Asylum, Mudvayne).
On the strength of their self-titled EP, they began playing shows with the best bands the Midwest had to offer. Then in the summer of 2006, they received an opportunity of a lifetime. Drift Effect was invited to play the Vans Warped Tour with bands like Dropping Daylight, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Motion City Soundtrack, Thursday, and State Radio. This amazing experience made them realize that making music their career was a realistic goal. They incorporated the band. Set their business plan, and then over the next few months played shows in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota.
In January of 2007, the band began work on their debut full-length album, "Be Something" with Nashville producer Chris Mara (Gin Blossoms). Again, they chose to work at Pachyderm studios. Through all of the hard work and success, the band has stuck to its ideals. They recognize the business, but are intent on writing music with a purpose. The most soulful and inspired music has been a product of rebellion: a defiance of social duress, from punk to jazz to alternative. This attitude of non-acceptance and their musical influences are ones that the band has taken on as their own.
