Morphed into what locals are calling "Rockin' Popgrass with a Blue Sensibility". Tight harmonies, catchy hooks, you won't be disappointed.
17 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Acoustic, FOLK: Modern Folk
Details:
Founded in 2000, Fathappy has been making inroads around the Northwest with their own brand of up-tempo, intellectual rock. Relying on Cohiba and Kokanee-fueled creativity, Fathappy orders up the musical equivalent of a round of Bull Blasters - tunes that go down sweet, and come up funky. An unmitigated flop in butt-rock bars and country music strongholds, Fathappy's adult alternative sound is finding a devoted following of "Fatheads" among those in need of an alternative to being adult. Fathappy's Third album, "Live at Saint Laurent" has just been released.
Jamie Howell, vocals, acoustic guitar
After years as a solo act, playing original acoustic music in coffee houses, cafes and the occasional package liquor joint, Jamie Howell came to Fathappy under protest, fully opposed to the idea of pumping up the volume with a full band, only to discover that it was really what he'd wanted to do all along. A student of the piano and saxophone in the jazz ensembles at the University of Washington, Jamie now devotes his energies to songwriting and singing as one of Fathappy's frontmen.
Jeff Ostenson, vocals, bass
Jeff Ostenson's first taste of musical performance came in the first grade when he was called upon to sing a solo in the St. Joseph's Elementary School Christmas program while wearing a full-body donkey costume handcrafted by his biggest fan, both then and now, his mother. Undeterred and emotionally unscathed, Jeff played tenor sax and sang in many school-related musical groups, right up until his senior year in high school which found him sporting a mullet and fronting an '80s spandex band called Suite 16 that survived by playing Van Halen and Ratt covers at school dances. Jeff put his lips to the baritone sax in college, playing and touring with his University Jazz Band, before graduating with a token degree in Psychology.
Zack Lodato, vocals, mondolin, and drums
Zack's first snare drum was wood, held together with bailing wire, and his first drumset was cobbled together from 5 gallon buckets and a suitcase. He dabbled in percussion and piano for much of the early years, played in the marching and jazz bands in highschool, while moonlighting in a couple of mullet-rock band on the weekends, one including Suite 16 with Jeff. Those were dark times. College brought cramped living quarters so Zack sold his drums for a guitar and a VW van which exposed him to bluegrass and folk music festivals, hippies, jamming acoustically and general mischief. After inheriting a mandolin from his great-grandfather, he began picking his way thru tunes, and wound up back in his hometown, at a gig where Fathappy was playing. It seemed like a natural fit, and he's been playing with them since November 2004. "I'm in it mostly for the money, but the music is fun too" quips Zack.
