WHO IS CANDLE-ENDS?
In a dark basement in West Michigan, Candle-Ends sits on a metal fold-out chair, singing songs of fatalist resignation into his dusty four-track cassette recorder.
He ventures out sporadically to play in public, and has been performing in coffee shops, bars and on the street in Michigan, Colorado and England for over a decade.
Several of his early songs were recorded on two albums by the California group Egg, and a flash video of their performance of his song "How Do You Cope?" is available on-line at www.bunnymatic.com
On To the Sea, his 2004 debut album, Candle-Ends plays all instruments, including electric and acoustic guitar, a cheap old keyboard, a rented cello and a metal can. Throughout the album are scattered voices from his past, resurrected from old tapes, including a young, storytelling Candle-Ends on the three "To the Sea" framing tracks.
HE IS THE MAN IN FRONT OF YOU AT THE GROCERY STORE, PLACING HIS SODA POP AND COOKIES ON THE CONVEYOR BELT WITH CRACKED RED KNUCKLES.
