Details:
Judy Insley spent her early childhood on 77 acres of rolling Michigan fields surrounded by horsesâ¦and music, which became her passion in life. After years of performing âcoverâ tunes and occasional originals in various folk/rock bands, duos and trios, a health crisis, surgery and lengthy recovery in late 1998 through 1999 forced her to sit back and re-evaluate her musical goals and direction. Inspired by Dr. Wayne Dyer during a lecture in which he admonished âDonât die with your music still in you,â Judy decided to concentrate on her songwriting and step out as a solo artist. Today, she is a writer and performer of songs about personal growth, social justice, environmentalism, and our universal connection to everything around us.
In January of 2001, Judy was commissioned by a homeopathic physician to write a song about healing as a theme for the doctorâs own series of audiotapes. The resulting âHeart, Soul, Flesh and Boneâ proved so powerful that she was invited to participate in the physicianâs Women On Purpose workshops, contributing to a segment entitled, âFinding Your Voice, Singing Your Song.â
That October, the songwriter opened for Lucie Blue Tremblay in an American Red Cross 9/11 fund-raising concert. Shortly thereafter, she and "Leaving Home" Engineer/Producer Dan Hazlett contributed their song, âPlaces in the Heart,â as well as additional background music, to a Pleasant Ridge cable T.V. production.
Judy was a featured performer at the Global Renaissance Allianceâs Michigan Conference in the fall of 2003, the Sierra Clubâs Earth Day Celebration in the spring of 2005, lent her voice and guitar to the Greater Flint Area American Civil Liberties Unionâs Annual Awards Dinner in the spring of 2006 and, in the fall of that year, performed with Julie Beutel in a Detroit Audubon-sponsored âSongs for the Earthâ concert.
Currently, Judy performs at various local Michigan venues such as the âLive! From the Living Roomâ series at the Blue Note Café in Pontiac, the Sweetgrass Concert Series in Davisburg, âArts In Motionâ in Grand Rapids and the White Crow Conservatory of Music in Saginaw. In June of this year, she will be a featured performer at the Noreastâr Folk Festival in Mio. In addition to songwriting and performing, Judy is also a guitar instructor.
Judy Insleyâs voice is comfortable, instinctive, and uniquely emotive; her skillful guitar playing provides a strong foundation for heartfelt lyrics and flowing melodies. Judyâs stage performance has been described as âpurityâ¦honestyâ¦music at its naked purpose; communication transcending words.â
An independent artist with her own music publishing company, Judy is also a member of Southeast Michiganâs Songwriters Anonymous collective.
