The Puffinboy sound combines elements of Pop/Folk and Country with an emphasis on strong vocal harmonies and killer songs. Some have likened Puffinboy to the Carpenters covering The Byrds, others just refer to it as squawking.

POP: Folky Pop, COUNTRY: Modern Country
Details:
Puffinboy was started by Spencer Chisham. Originally from Scotland, Chisham made his way to London via Basingstoke, picking up friends and fellow musicians âThe Perishersâ on route. Having played with âThe Perishersâ and a few other bands for several years, Chisham found that he was writing his own songs in his spare time, but that he had no outlet for them. On a bored Sunday afternoon in February he decided to do something about this.
A few home recordings later and a myspace account confirmed what Chisham had long suspected, he was brilliant and the world deserved to hear his songs, and so he set about putting a small band together to perform them. Although the line-up for Puffinboy is variable, for the first few gigs and the album tracks Spen was accompanied by Lorna Tenconi on second vocal and James Perryman on percussion, acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin and lapsteel (the big show-off).
Spencer is a big fan of Buddy Holly, the Beatles, the Byrds, the Beach Boys (and all other bands beginning with B) and these influences blend to make Puffinboy songs the unusual concoction they are. Spencer writes about his life drawing on childhood memories, young love, spiritual confusion and a particularly insane plane journey back from Sicily. The style tends to veer on the folk side of pop with an emphasis on strong vocal harmonies. Some have described the Puffinboy sound as the Carpenters covering The Byrds, others just refer to it as squawking
In July 2006, Puffinboy performed their first gig at the Borderline, in the centre of London. They have spent the rest of the year building up a loyal following, writing and recording. 2007 is going to be an exciting year for Puffinboy with plans to expand their horizons and venture out of the capital. They enjoy performing live and would like as many people as possible to hear their songs, applaud them loudly and give them loads of cash. They have also recorded a self-funded debut album, which is due for release in 2007.
