Carmina Piranha appeared on the Portland music scene in 1996. "They were a dynamite group, one that stitched together advanced pop smarts, stellar playing, a bit of gypsy fire and a little tango, all with the inspired recklessness of any punk band." -- The Portland Tribune.

In April of 1998, Carmina Piranha collaborated with the respected Oregon Ballet Theatre, composing and performing the musical score for an original rock ballet choreographed by OBT Artistic Director James Canfield. The band recorded this music as their debut CD, Revenge Poems, and released it in conjunction with OBT's performances.

Carmina Piranha went on to release a seven song EP (Lucid) in 2002. After an amicable split due to cross-country relocation of members, Carmina Piranha lead singer Lisa Stringfield and guitarist Lara Michell reconfigured as Carmina Luna, adding Skip vonKuske on cello and Jen Bernard on flute and vocals. Carmina Luna currently performs in Portland, playing old Piranha favorites, new originals and unexpected cover tunes such as Rufus Wainwright's "Greek Song" and Duran Duran's "The Chauffeur".
