Georgie Raggett is nearly 18 years old and has been writing music for about 5 years. She plays classical music on the piano, flute and bassoon but has been improvising from a young age and plays the piano and sings on all of her tracks. The first time Georgie recorded her own songs was in 2005 with some friends, but having contacted a producer in 2006, she then recorded a CD consisting of 4 tracks to a more professional standard.
In her final year of secondary school, Georgie was asked to write a song for the sixth form production, The Willow Pattern. Set in China, the play describes how the only daughter of a powerful Mandarin falls in love with his secretary. When he finds out, he is furious and the daughter and secretary elope to a small house. Eventually, the Mandarin finds the lovers and, in his anger, sets fire to the house while they are asleep. As the flames envelop the house, the Mandarin realises what he has done, and full of remorse, lives for the rest of his life as a recluse. The lovers die and rise to heaven as a pair of doves.
This new song, Rise from the Flames, was performed as the finale of the play in December 2006.
