An eclectic mix of folk, blues, country, and rock, The Hill (May 2007) is the second album of original songs by Mike Stocksdale, and his third in collaboration. It has been said that he writes like Paul Simon for a new generation , and has been compared to modern artists like Damien Rice and Ray Lamontagne, but The Hill is truly a unique piece of music that spans styles and generations while retaining a comfortable, conversational tone that simply sounds like Mike Stocksdale.
He was raised in Palos Verdes, CA, graduated from Indiana University, and lived a year in Chicago. After launching his music career with a song on the annual Live from Bloomington album (Indiana University), and many jam packed performances in Bloomington, IN, his band was invited to play at the 2001 Farm Aid Concert for America, featuring Dave Matthews, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp. They proceeded to perform across the Midwest and opened shows for The Foo Fighters, Michelle Branch, OKGO, selling over 2,000 copies of their CD, Waiting for Whenever.
He moved back to Los Angeles at the end of 2003 to produce his first solo album, Searching for September (Jan 2005), and to further his education at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood. During that time, he continued to perfect his songwriting style and guitar skills, found his voice as a singer, and formed a new band. He was recognized by the school for winning the annual artist development competition for best songwriter/performer.
On The Hill Mike Stocksdale sings, plays rhythm guitar, harmonica, and bass. Chris Green plays percussion, Natasha Kmeto plays keyboard and sings backing vocals, and Anders Mouridsen plays lead guitar, accordion, and bass.
