Acoustic folk layered with electronic undertones and harmonic vocal arrangements for an easy-listening and flowing sound.
10 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Modern Folk, POP: with Electronic Production
Details:
Timothy Simon grew up sitting in the back seat of his parents car listening to the radio filled with soft rock 80s hits... like Willie Nelson, Neil Diamond, and Simon & Garfunkel...
Later he lived in Central Square in Cambridge, MA... playing guitar in a college band, influenced by Stereolab, Portishead, & Tricky... and considering the modern electronic sound.
Timothy Simon has always had a vision to perfectly merge the worlds of electronic music with soft rock acoustic folk music... To bring the easy-listening elements of folk to the modern world with electronic undertones.
Timothy Simon has now released "The Great Embrace", a flowing journey through the modern folk world... with strong pop refrains pulling you in, but never burdening you.
On songs like "Cracks in the Street" he entices you with his memorable "Concrete Symphony" sound and on "Damn Old Blues" he invites everyone to join in on the chorus. The album peaks during the strong arrangements of "The Atmosphere" and "The Way It Goes". In these songs he presents the perfect pop-folk balance between the tension of electronic backdrop and harmonious folk bliss. In "The Atmosphere" he floats "I remember sunny days, laying around, counting clouds, there was never any doubt"... and yet in "The Way it Goes" he asks with stark sincerity "Ainât that just the way they say it goes darling?" referring the irony of daily modern life.
In this age of easily mass produced electronic noise and choppy imploded pop, Timothy Simon's thoughtful arrangements bring back a time of simpler folk pop, where folk chords were folk chords, and singing along with a memorable melody was obvious.
But make no mistake, "The Great Embrace" is neither simple nor superficial. Every note and lyric is well though out and placed with care. With each play a new layer of folk bliss is noticed. It is a timeless album that simultaneously fits merges both with modern electronic sounds and deep-rooted folk, in which the listener can fade away in the back seat with an ipod on listening again and again...
