Singer songwriter Daniel Gomez Botta, originally from Venezuela, grew up listening to his fatherâs record collection of songwriters such as Pablo Milanes, Joan Manuel Serrat, and Silvio Rodriguez. Fascinated with their melody and eloquence Botta wrote his first song at the tender age of 8. Later in life Botta was influnced by the sounds of Seattles grunge (Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana) and Latin Rock by Soda Stereo as well as Great Britain Pop rock bands such as The Cure.
In the mid 90s Botta was the front man for La Matriz del Sistema (eventually Papas Underground) playing the DC/Virginia/Maryland circuit and sharing the stage with many local and international acts. After releasing two records with La Matriz, Bottas academic goals took him to the prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts, where he pursued and obtained a degree in Sound Design and Engineering. During this period he released two independent records âHumanoâ (1998) and âResurrectionâ (2000). In 2002 Botta formed âPocket Heroâ a âSpanglishâ British Pop Rock/Emo band and actively played the local scene. Botta, a compulsive songwriter, also put out two reflective and introspective EPs. âApartamento Musicâ(2004) and âTeetering on the brinkâ (2005).
In 2006 Botta came back to the DC area and joined forces with old friend drummer Seth Elias (former member of Controversia) later joining with local talent bassist Tim Maccabe, forming a power trio. Their independent album âPedazos de mi en el tapeâ (2007) a mixture of Latin pop rock and âTrovaâ with hints of contemporary songwriters like Ryan Adams. Melodic richness, lyric content and mature song structure makes âPedazos de mi en el tapeâ it Bottaâs best album yet.
