With his second release John Egenes brings a bit of New Zealand into his unique Americana style.
15 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Modern Folk, COUNTRY: Americana
Details:
On his second release, "Fretbuzz", recorded in his adopted New Zealand, John Egenes takes us from his native New Mexico down into the hinterlands of Aotearoa. With able backing from local kiwi musicians and a string of quirky rockers and ballads, Santa Fe's favorite son winds his way from rodeos in Wyoming to pastoral settings down under, tossing in a wide range of material from a sweet child's lullaby to a heartfelt bluegrass tune about lost love and heartache.
The lineup of players on this CD reads like a who's who of Dunedin talent, and includes the likes of Robert Scott, Anji Sami, Rob Burns, Anthony Lander, Mike Moroney, Anna Bowen, and the members of Delgirl, among others. It's a first rate list of session players, many of whom are making their first foray into the Americana scene. Egenes manages to pull together musicians from varied backgrounds and genres and plug them all into a mix of his own making. combined with his excellent skills on a variety of instruments (guitars, mandolin, pedal steel, and others), he weaves a rich tapestry with country, folk, bluegrass, rock and roll, and yes--even a string quartet.
This is an "under the radar" type of CD. You won't hear it on mainstream radio. But don't be surprised if mainstream artists start covering some of Egenes' songs.
