Description:
Psychedelic old-time & haunting maladies; roots Americana with an edge.
13 MP3 Songs
COUNTRY: Country Folk, COUNTRY: Americana
Details:
The New Prohibition Band has one foot firmly planted in Appalachian Old-Time music and the other stepping across time and space. They invite you into the world of 'psychedelic old-time & haunting maladies', somewhere between the square dances of yesteryear and the timeless struggle of the human condition. The sound spans from barn burning dance tunes to original songs that fuse old-time with blues and gypsy flavors. Many songs feature Cera Impala's contemplative lyrics and ethereal vocals adorned with lonesome, modal harmonies. Lester Flatt once said that "down in our part of the country it hadn't been too many years ago since a 5-string banjo and a fiddle was called a band down that way, and when you mentioned 'the band' one would reach and get the fiddle and the other one the banjo and they had it all ready to go." The New Prohibition Band follows Lester's recipe, adding upright bass and vocals to cook up foot-stomping dance tunes and ballads of delicate dark beauty. The New Prohibition Band is Cera Impala on clawhammer banjo, Dirk Ronneburg on fiddle, and Phil Post on upright bass. All three are veteran musicians around the Pacific Northwest. Cera gained a following in Olympia, WA performing her unique original compositions on voice and guitar. She also played guitar, banjo, bass, and sang with The Blackberry Bushes String Band before joining The New Prohibition Band. Dirk plays guitar and sings with the Head for the Hills Bluegrass Band, and has played and sung with The Mudbay Stompers and Dan âMudcatâ McKinstry. He also performs acoustic roots blues solo on guitar, harmonica, and piano. Phil plays upright bass with Head for the Hills, and gets his rock nâ roll kicks playing electric bass and singing with Milroy Holler. He also played bass in the legendary Northwest bands Heliotroupe and Big Idea.
