Description:
Jazz guitar trio playing traditional bebop with some modern vocabulary
13 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Traditional Jazz Combo, JAZZ: Bebop
Details:
The Sam Walker Trio and the music on this album exist primarily because of friendship. Friendship was the catalyst for our beginning and I believe is the key ingredient to our continued success. In December of 2001, my niece called and asked if I could get a trio together to play a holiday party. So I called my number one standby Sam, I also contacted Roy, who had recently resumed playing after a substantial layoff due to health issues related to multiple sclerosis. They both happened to be two of my closest friends as well as two of my favorite players. During a break at the gig, someone mused that it would be fun if we might be able to work perhaps once a month as a trio. Our goal of one gig per month promptly became close to 100 engagements a year.
Iâll wage Sam and Roy would agree with me â the Sam Walker Trio has become the most rewarding musical experience of my life. It just comes as an added bonus that these guys are like brothers to me. Friendship is the key factor to our success. Sam and I have been working together for about 10 years. Roy and I go back to 1983. Even our personalities counterbalance one another. Sam is level headed and detail oriented, Iâm dark and a disorganized mess, and Roy is off the wall with, letâs just say, âa lot of extra energy.â
Our small but loyal following has been asking about an album for quite some time and now we donât have to say, âItâs coming, itâs coming!â any longer.
The addition of Joey Carter on this album was all but a forgone conclusion. Not only have Sam and I working with him for years, but Joey Carter is simply one of the most extraordinary musicians anyone could ever hope to perform with. Thank you, Joey!
This isnât a perfect album. I donât think I would change too much about it. One thing Iâm dead sure of â I wouldnât trade these guys for anything.
So many people would want to know, so here it is: Sam plays a DâAquisto Jazzline, modeled after Jim Hallâs guitar, and a Heritage 535 through an Acoustic Image Clarus 1R with a Razorâs Edge Stealth 12 cabinet. Roy plays an old Gretsch kit with Bosphorus cymbals. Joey plays a Yamaha Vibraphone. My bass is a full size Mittenwald with an Acoustic Image Clarus 2 through a Flitesound 15â cabinet.
We hope you enjoy this recording and more importantly go out and support the local Jazz musicians in your area!
