Uniquely original rock music with influences ranging from Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and the Rolling Stones to Radiohead and Garbage.
12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Progressive Rock, ROCK: Modern Rock
Details:
Compelling lyrics and sharply melodic instrumental hooks abound on the debut release by singer/songwriter Cary Grace. Book of Rhymes features a rare depth and diversity of material and presents a keen understanding of human emotion in musical form. Its stylistic influences cross many genres and perhaps define new ones.
Born in Columbia, SC, Cary is a Nashville, TN based singer/songwriter whose uniquely original style evolved from influences ranging from Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and the Rolling Stones to Radiohead and Garbage.
"Writing a song to me is to create a collection of characters and scenes for the listener to infuse with life and detail, and at its best it is a collaborative process with the audience," Cary says. "Fitting into a genre or defining ground rules isn't all that important--if it feels right nobody will notice."
In addition to writing all but one of the songs for the album (she co-wrote "When Tomorrow Comes" with another Nashville songwriter), Cary also personally engineered and produced the recording sessions. Book of Rhymes, which also features Cary on guitar, keyboard, and harmonica, includes guest appearances by Vince Gill who plays mandolin on "Remembering You" and the title track.
When asked to describe the album she quotes Bob Dylan.
"Dylan said once, 'All I can do is be me, whoever that is,' and that's exactly how I feel about it. This collection of songs is an extension of who I am, and still the music finds its own direction and constantly reinvents itself."
