Anita Coats grew up in the suburbs of Simi Valley, CA. There were three optionsin Suburbia, drugs, boredom, or creativity. She chose creativity. She started as a dancer, turned actor and found a comfy fit when she started writing songs at the age of seventeen. After learning three chords from a friend she wrote her first song and and hasn't been able to stop writing since. Anita is still in Los Angeles and doesn't know if she could ever leave the sunshine for very long.

Anita's first album, anita coats, was completed and released in 2002. This album is a mixed bag of self-reflection, longing and a little bit political. She has the intention to make many more recordings. You can currently hear Anita's music on the Unsigned Artist channel on XM Satellite Radio. You can also see Anita playing solo or with her band around LA. There is something about seeing her play live that may never be able to be captured on even the best recording.
