Whatâs a Bluehat?
One day I was just doodling, and I drew this thingâ¦kind of a combination of a heart, and the symbol for infinity. It was blue, and it looked like a hat. I thought âthatâs itâ¦itâs a name and a logo.â I've been Bluehat ever since.

Baby Boomer Music?
Iâm a baby boomer myself, and I was influenced by all the classic musicians we all grew up with. In the town where I went to high school, we had the Commodore Ballroom. In the forties and fifties, it featured live big band music. When the sixties and seventies came along, the owner changed with the times, and started booking acts like: Jeff Beck with Rod Stewart, the Cream, the Vanilla Fudge, and on and on. We saw them all, from about four feet in front of the stage. Or...We saw Led Zeppelin at the beach, and James Taylor at the local community college. We didnât know how lucky we were. Just another Saturday night, right?

So your music sounds like classic rock?
Not exactly. Iâm still a huge fan of rock and roll guitar music (youâve got to see Eric Claptonâs âCrossroads Guitar Festivalâ DVD), but I tend to write what I feel comfortable singing. And that, weâll have to blame on my mother. She played Johnny Mathis and Brook Benton records non stop when I was a toddler. (I recently saw Johnny on a PBS specialâ¦great stuffâ¦especially a song I hadnât heard before called âPlease Be There.â It sounds like something I could have written...but I didnâtâ¦
and now I canâtâ¦ouch)

What about the âcountry flavor?â
My appreciation for country music came later on. I canât resist it. The lyrics are clever, and the guitar playing is just breathtaking. I recently saw Vince Gill live, and you owe it to yourself to do the same. Besides, in my youth, I drove trucks, and I just loved it. Thereâs nothing quite like plowing this big monster down an empty highway at 3 in the morning. I miss it. I hear thereâs a shortage of truck drivers. I may do it again.
At any rate, I'll always be working on another truck driving song. I also want to write a waltz that becomes an instant classic. I'm getting closer. Stay tuned.
