John as born and raised in Northern Alabama where he heard country legends on the radio, such as Ernest Tubb, Eddy Arnold, Bob Wills, and Hank Williams, Sr. Every Saturday night he and his family would listen to the Grand Olâ Opry and hear great performers such a Roy Acuff, Red Foley, and Bill Monroe. He learned to love country music at an early age, which was also known as âhillbillyâ music back then, and later as âcountry-western.â John wanted to be a cowboy singer when he âgrew up.â Upon graduation from high school, John got a job in Utah at Bryce Canyon. His repertoire consisted of popular and country music and cowboy songs. This latter emphasis was enhanced in subsequent years when working as a wrangle and entertainer, known as the âUtah Cowboy,â singing and playing at camps, lodges, and hotels in Yosemite National Park. While in college in Northern California, John formed a country band, âThe Lazy River Boys,â that played for school dances, nightclubs, special shows, and private parties. In 2003, John met Buck Adams and they formed a group known as âThe Pardnersâ and, subsequently, a band known as the âHonky Tonk Kings.â They have been prolific in composing and recording original country songs. Of the 12 songs on this first cd, a brief description follows: Honky Tonk Kings, style similar to Hank Williams Senior; Funk et al.
