Ireneâs love for music began at an early ageâ¦âI was raised on a strict diet of classical/jazz music... My father plays classical guitar so thatâs the only music he felt was o.k.â (Mendelssohn, Bach, Debussy to Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker)

Her mother on the other hand exposed her to greats like the Beatles, Queen, Bee Gees, and her favorite Stevie Wonder. âI remember dancing with my mama under the moonlight while she had Yellow Submarine playing on her old record player⦠good music just gets into your soul.â

As an extremely artistic person she confesses, âIâve always been a little awkward... I was taller than most, and preferred reading and putting on mock plays and commercials w/my siblings to being very socialâ... Her first âperformanceâ was in Tokyo at a private Japanese elementary school... âIâve always been a painfully shy, but when I sang, for the first time I felt a connection to people, and I just knew from then on that this would be one of the ways I would communicate.â

When she returned to the states she discovered gospel music and sang at churches and schools across the country w/various artists⦠âMusic should move you⦠make you happy⦠melancholy, furious⦠uplifted⦠whatever the emotion I want to be left changed or bettered by it... Thatâs what Iâd like to see in good music.â
