ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Karla K. Morton was born in Ft. Worth, Texas and attended college at Texas A&M University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism.
Morton, who now lives in Denton, Texas, has written in many genres as well as in song and poetry...but her main love is poetry. Poetry in all forms. She believes poets have the honour of expressing into words the emotions of life.
"Poetry," Morton says, "is life's essence...it's simply impossible for me not to write."
Morton also is an avid photographer, and has had several showings of her black and white photography in the pre-digital days.

A wife and mother of two teenagers, Karla K. Morton is a founding member and officer of the Denton Poet's Assembly (a branch of the Poetry Society of Texas), and is on the Board of Directors for the Greater Denton Arts Council. She is a member of the SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators), the NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International), and has performed her poetry at the 45th Annual Salado Scottish Highlands Gathering.
Morton, who is always in search of new ways to promote the craft of poetry, has had several art showings of her work in the visual spectrum as well -- her poetry written in calligraphy and painted onto very large canvases by calligrapher and friend, Kim Cathro.

Currently, Morton completed a book/CD project with Canadian composer Howard Baer, recording and producing one of her epic poems. Baer, who has produced hundreds of CDs, written numerous TV themes and scores, and worked on several IMAX films, read Morton's story and was inspired to compose a musical score to accompany her work -- including performances by some of the finest Celtic musicians in the world.

"It's an amazing project," Morton said. "and it's such an honour to be working with someone as incredibly talented as Howard Baer."
The result is a unique and beautiful mix of poetry, story and music.
The poem, titled "Wee Cowrin' Timorous Beastie", is a Scottish epic story written in rhyme about a 17th century Scottish pirate named John Murray and his love, Vashti. They are separated for years, because her faither denies their marriage until John can make his fortune to claim her hand. While they are apart, John has given his love an enchanted brooch to protect her, but when the village falls into natural disaster, the villagers turn against her, blaming their misfortune on her and the magic brooch. It's an exciting story about longing and love and the mystery of the beautiful foggy dew of Scotland.

"Wee Cowrin' Timorous Beastie" will be released April 2007.
