Karmageddon is the latest collection of original music from Maggie and Michael McKinney. They introduced several of these songs in the CMT room at the North American Folk Alliance showcase in Memphis, Tennessee, early in 2007. This new CD is Lucky Mud in full swing, from Michael's opening track, Cold, Black Water, about what's important in the wake of the storm to the last cut, Maggie's up-tempo retro tune called Every Minute of the Day, recorded with the Dashboard Chihuahuas, every song tells another story.
Just back from their fourth tour of Ireland, with shows along the West Coast from the legendary Neachtain's Pub in Galway City to a night in Sligo playing honky-tonk originals with another legend -Donal McGlynn in his own pub, McGlynn's, they have filled this new CD with the best of their new material. There is Dancin' with the Devil, about just being 'in the mood,' LuAnne, a story of a dangerous man with unfinished business, and Saturday Night Cockfight, a family love story that takes place at a Southeast Louisiana cockfight. Maggie's haunting song, Ghosts, floats into Drika's Grave, a song about redemption and second chances: "I hear you coming for me and I see the lights/ no one else could find me in the dark of night"
She Ran is a song of and for all the girls who run away, I Will Protect You is a modern lullaby and I am Your Country imagines a voice from the land. Mississippi Queen is a saucy, salty St. Louis-style blues from Maggie, and her Silly Broken Heart is the story of one broken heart in a world falling to pieces. You Make Me Sing celebrates what love can do, Bulldog is a kind of love song to whisky, and Every Minute of the Day will have you singing along.
