NEW SINGLE from the Anglo-Franco-American guitar band released on new London-based âsingles onlyâ label Ciao Ketchup Recordings.
2 MP3 Songs
POP: British Pop, ROCK: 90's Rock
Details:
Mono Taxi returns with a brand new single, âThe Sound Of Youâ. The bandâs first official release since their 2006 debut âKind Of Betterâ.
The eagerly awaited second single of the Anglo-Franco-American combo Mono Taxi comes at last, in times where mathrockers are submerging the market.
It's refreshing to hear that a simple song with distorted guitars coming out of your car radio, still has the power to make you forget you're stuck in a traffic jam. A wink to 'The Jesus & Mary Chainâ and âMy Bloody Valentineâ, with its thumping drums and hazily elevated powerchords, 'The Sound of You' caresses you with its sweet lyrics: "I am no enigma" sings E.Williams. It will be one hell of an enigma if this very line doesn't hit your favourite indie radio show this summer.
'The Sound Of You' sounds B.I.G: big drums, big guitars, big harmonies and all the trimmings. You radios of Albion and âLes Departements D'Outre-Merâ, prepare your ears because this sounds like a big car in a kindergarden. Not really. A bit nicer. A mouse in an ants nest ?
Mono Taxi will be promoting this new single with a UK tour in August, playing shows in Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Hull, Leeds, Sheffield, Norwich, Bath, Newport, Brighton, and London.
REVIEWS SELECTION:
'This gang mash-up the best bits of Velvet Underground, My Bloody Valentine and Pixies into an exceptional slab of Euro-indie." The Fly
"French exchanges were never this much fun" ID
"...they have a tremendous knack of sounding like they cast some terribly slinky moonlight shadows in arcane areas where violence could break out any minute... ...scuffed and supercool... " PLAYLOUDER
"As sultry as a Kim Gordon track, with a real homegrown warmth ... genius!" SUBBA CULTCHA
"The delicately cool sound of Bardot et Serge, after they've ditched their pedalo and discovered power chords." NME
"Mono Taxi have created one of the best recent pop singles that wasn't by Yo La Tengo." The WIRE
"The type of band who demand your attention at all times...they switch from ballsy, angular, stutter-punk to poignant melody via tumultuous power chord thrash like their lives depended on it." DROWNED IN SOUND

You may have picked up on a limited 7-inch release last year (on fledgling label Play It Again 7) called âKind of Betterâ. Steve Lamacq certainly did, making it his single of the week on BBC 6Music. So did Bob Harris, who also played it on his show as well as Gideon Coe, who was moved to summon the people responsible for an acoustic session at the BBC. The band behind that cool, addictive slice of indie pop is Mono Taxi : Yorkshire-born chanteuse Ellice Williams, French guitarist Antoine Collin, bassist Kaitlin Mitza and drummer Paul Mabillot (aka Pol Malibu).
They formed in Paris in 2004, and are now regulars on the UK live circuit, having supported The Research on an extensive UK tour and playing some recent dates with Bromheads Jacket and The Veils (Rough Trade). From promising beginnings, they have shaped up to be one of the most charming and invigorating live indie act around.
"The Sound Of You" is Mono Taxi's second official release. Out August 20th in 7", CD, and digital format, on newly born London-based "singles only" label: Ciao Ketchup Recordings.
Passions and influences of the band include The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Moldy Peaches, Serge Gainsbourg and Jonathan Richman. When these all come together, it adds up to one jaunty, unpredictable, joyous ride.
