Details:
Ruth Croson has been performing professionally for several years both here and in Canada. She is a member of Canadian Actorâs Equity and Actra. Originally from a small farm in Woodslee, Ontario, where she first started singing in public at the age of 3, she moved to Toronto to attend the University of Toronto. Ruth graduated with a Bsc in Zoology, but during these years she started performing in the Engineering Societyâs, Skule Nite, annual variety show. Ruth loved performing so much that she quickly became quite active in several community theatre companies around Toronto, where she was recognized for her work in the form of 3 best actress theatre awards.
In addition to her university studies, Ruth spent several years studying voice at the Royal Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of renowned coaches; Madame Jesner, Maestro Barbini, and Jean MacPhail. In New York, Ruth has studied with Mignon Dunn and currently with Janet Ellis.
Ruth has played many roles including: Guinevere in Camelot, Kate in Kiss Me Kate, Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, Marian in The Music Man, and toured internationally with the Mirvish production of H.M.S. Pinafore as Cousin Hebe, starring Ron Moody. Ruth created two one-woman shows: To Tell the Ruth and Ruth or Consequences. Both were performed in New York and in Canada.
Ruth has been living on Staten Island for the past 8 years with her husband and 4 cats. She has performed on Staten Island in two of her creations, Iâve Been Here Before, and 1940âs at Chez Andre. Ruth created and appeared with Marissa Pontecorva and Maria DeSantis, in a benefit concert to raise money to buy toys for Katrina hurricane victims., Katrinaâs Kids. Ruth has appeared at Snug Harbor Cultural Center as Grandma in An Old Fashioned Christmas, The Musical, Aunt Abby in Arsenic and Old Lace, and Stella Deems in Follies. Ruth participated in their readings of original plays sponsored by the Staten Island Shakespearean Company. She was Elaine Gold in Sessions by Fay Corinotis and Grandma Cavalconti in A Kiss for a Soldier by Jay Jiminez. This past February, Ruth returned to the stage to play Muzzy in the Actor's Workshop production of Thoroughly Modern Millie.
