Elyse Johnson, also known as âElleâ, is a smooth, sensual, sultry, yet powerful thirty something year old soulful singer/song writer/poetess hailing from Queens New York. Her father, who is not only an avid jazz lover, but an accomplished saxophone player in his own right, cultivated Elleâs love for music at an early age. She has been singing and supporting many underground groups for the last 10 years. Now itâs Elleâs turn shine like the ray of light she is.

âElleâ has been blessed to headline many packed showcases at the once famous now defunct Sweetwaterâs, as well as opening for many acts including Ray, Goodman and Brown and the jazz group Pieces of a Dream. She has had the good fortune to be featured on one of the CD's of jazz drummer extraordinaire Lenny White. She has also regularly performed on Paltalk Internet radio as well as Da Nawlinz Groove podcast show and Vocalized Ink radio, which are all international known.

It is the music of Chaka Khan, who with her vocal skill has ability to relay her emotions with a song - made it clear to Elle that she had to sing. âChaka Khan is the reason I sing today,â Elle responds when asked why she loves writing and performing. âChaka Khan is the truth!â

Natalie Cole, Patrice Rushen, Anita Baker, Sade and Brenda Russell are huge influences in Elleâs musical life. âSadeâs smooth throatiness talks to me, shows me itâs ok not to sing happy songs all the time, while Brenda Russellâs music proves that people really will listen if they can relate to the things I write about.â Elle explains.

When listening to Elle you hear the smoothness of Sade, the fire of Chaka Khan, the simplistic truth of Brenda Russellâs writing style and a dash of Anita Bakerâs sultry tones. Itâs truly a âmelting pot of emotionsâ for your ears.

Elle is a true lover of love songs. When "I love you" is said in a unique way, it gets her attention. Elle truly believes in the power of love and it shows in her work. Most of Elleâs poetry/songs are about lifeâs up's, down's, highâs and lows. Her delivery is such that anyone with a heart can relate.

Elle is currently working on her latest project entitled Something Special. A collection of R&B, jazz, Pop, Funk, and Spoken Word Poetry, wrapped in a blanket of soulful music created by a dynamic duo of hot instrumentalists out of Ohio known as âDa Wonda Twinzâ.
