Details:
16 Tracks by over 60 musicians from 21 ethnic groups. The CD was recorded during a few months in 2007.

Among the participants is Natty Wailer of Bob Marley and the Wailers.

This album is truly eclectic, and has Reggae, Latin beats, Ukranian and American folk songs, Congolese music, South African compositions and MORE.

âSean agus Nuaâ was conceived as a localised project focusing on multiculturalism in early 2004. Its primary aims were to create a lasting documentation of Galway at a hugely important period in its history, on entering and adapting to its new cosmopolitan era, while also promoting both the celebration of individual ethnic cultures and interculturalism at every given opportunity. To date, the project has compiled a series of more than one hundred interviews of individuals of diverse backgrounds and circumstances who have established homes in the area in recent years. Interviewees, who hail from in excess of sixty countries scattered throughout all regions of the world, speak of aspects of their cultures, their individual reasons for coming to Galway, hopes and expectations they had on arrival, and how their lives have subsequently developed in the area. Some interviews with members of the local population are also featured.

Since its inception, âSean agus Nuaâ has also involved itself in a number of related sub-projects. In late 2005, it organised an intercultural evening so its interviwees could meet and mingle in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Representatives of at least twenty-five different nationalities gathered to share in the evening of music, craic and international food. In the summer of 2006, âSean agus Nuaâ collaborated with the âFriendship Clubâ to bring a piece of childrenâs street theatre promoting interculturalism to the Galway public. Staged twice for the Project 06 Festival, âSNAKE: The Peace Danceâ was a musical and multilingual extravaganza performed by primary school children of some of the diverse cultural backgrounds that now make up modern-day Galway. âSean agus Nuaâ has also successfully promoted and distributed tickets for cultural events with an ethnic slant to the relevant communities.

This CD, âSean Agus Nua: Éagsúlachtâ, showcases the quality and diversity of World Music that is now available in the city. As the various elements of Galwayâs new society intermingle, the region finds itself on the verge of a new era that crosses several cultural boundaries. Nowadays, on a typical night out to the pubs and clubs of Galway one is as likely to encounter African, South American or Continental European live music as a traditional Irish music session. Included here are more than sixty Galway-based musicians from twenty countries spread across four continents performing both traditional arrangements and original interpretations of their regionsâ music and songs.

One of the tracks is by Natty Wailer of Bob Marley and the Wailers!

In addition to serving as a unique and lasting detailed snap-shop into Galwayâs almost overnight transition from a mainly homogenous society into the broad multicultural environment it has become in recent years, information accrued from the âSean agus Nuaâ project is also being made available to any organisation or body that can use it for the common good of the overall community.
