It's a blazing summer Sunday on Montréal's St. Denis street; the kind of sultry, electric afternoon that one only finds in a city that spends most of the year in the icy grip of a seemingly endless winter. The sidewalks are packed with the beautiful people, and from above, former Kamikazes guitarist Maxime Desharnais and long-time friend Jamie Desjardins casually survey the scene from a third floor balcony. Along with fellow founding members Sebastien Godin (Mata Haris) and JC Niquet (Matchless), the two have recently established one of Montréal's newest, and most promising musical ventures: a band firmly rooted in all that is good about rock 'n roll, but still unlike anything that has come before. It's a sound that could only be born here, on the streets of this city; a sound which seeks out new avenues, new ways to push the boundaries of what guitar-driven, ton-of-bricks-garage-powerpop rock 'n roll can be. So in spite of the idyllic scene surrounding them, their thoughts are elsewhere. There are songs to write, shows to play, and a million miles to cover before they reach their destination- not unlike the busy street below, stretching off into the distance. And while no one knows where the avenue will lead, it's sure to be one hell of a trip.

Sonic Avenues have wasted no time creating a buzz in the underground/garage rock scene since their formation in 2006. Their first tracks, recorded at Montreal's Breakglass Studios in September 2006 by Jace Lasek (The Besnard Lakes, Wolf Parade), though never commercially released, nonetheless garnered consistent radio play on both XM and Sirius Satellite radio, as well as on numerous college and commercial radio stations from Montreal, all the way to Valladolid, Spain! The band's official debut, an independently produced self-titled EP, was released in June 2007 on Montreal's Ricochet Sound label (also home to garage-punk legends 'The Gruesomes').
