Description:
John Stowell, guitar and Rob Davis, saxophone recorded live for the Jazz Project's Art of Jazz Series November 26, 2006.
9 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Chamber Jazz, JAZZ: Modern Creative Jazz
Details:
This is the fourth live recording on The Jazz Project label, and the second featuring guitarist, John Stowell. This time around, Stowell is paired with fellow Portland saxophonist, Rob Davis. Here's what John Stowell had to say about the session.
"For the last five years saxophonist Rob Davis and I have been playing small gigs and the occasional concert around Portland, Oregon, mostly as a duo. Rob's beautiful sound, impeccable time, and ability to interact well make him an ideal partner for this setting. When old friend Jud Sherwood agreed to book Rob and me for his Art of Jazz Series, Rob and I were happy to come and play. What we didn't plan on was the late November blizzard that made our trip north to Bellingham from Portland quite the adventure. We arrive separately, and then waited to see if anyone else would brave the elements. Incredibly, more than twenty brave souls did, including engineer (and guitarist), Brian Cunningham. Brian set up the gear, we brushed off the snowflakes, and here is the result. Some thanks: to Rob, for playing beautifully, as aalwayss, and for making the trip. To Jud, for his ongoing support and hospitality over the years, to Brian for his recording (and driving) skills, and to Christopher Woitach for another great cover."
John Stowell, Portland, OR, April 2007.
