Inspirational - Folk/Pop 10 MP3 Songs SPIRITUAL: Inspirational, FOLK: Folk Pop Details: Harvest, Barbara's first CD, is a powerful collection of inspirational songs that embrace love, grace, abundance and the power and presence of God in our lives. This well-produced CD also features the talents of numerous professional local artists including members of the Grand Rapids Symphony, keyboardist Rob Genter who has produced numerous live shows and CD's and now works as a youth music director, Thompson Dawson whose own songs reached the Billboard Charts, and Jeff Schroeder who has released his own CD of children's educational music called "Explore New Worlds." The title cut "Harvest" grew out of a poem Barbara wrote for a graduation address she was asked to deliver. A local independent radio station regularly plays this cut around Thanksgiving. One listener has written Barbara's version of "Amazing Grace" into his will as one of the songs he wants played at his funeral. Another listener regularly plays this CD on her way to work as her daily "pick-me-up." Barbara's main passion is to create "music with impact" -her songs will make you laugh, tug at your heart, and bring tears to your eyes, but will not leave you untouched. Audiences often use the words "powerful" and "moving" to describe the effect of her songs. Barbara wrote her first song as a teen; "Life is a Whirlpool" a song that spoke of the powerful current of peer pressure. Since that time, Barbara has continued to hone her songwriting skills by studying with seasoned songwriters in Nashville and attending annual songwriting retreats. Barbara's vocal talents have also been recognized. Barbara has been featured on commercial jingles, placed as a finalist in a local radio station country vocalist contest and is often asked to provide vocals on numerous artist's CD's. She has performed at festivals, coffee houses, lounges, at concerts, and in churches. Although Barbara has worked as an elementary school teacher, and now as a business consultant and workshop facilitator, music has always been a thread that was woven through it all. Her grade school students were treated to a "sing-a-long" if they finished their work. When the first private school she taught at did not have a music program, she asked parents to purchase plastic recorders and used those to motivate her students to read and play music, culminating in the schools first "recorder recital." In the workshops she facilitates , Barbara will often incorporate songs or instrumental music designed to help participants take what they've learned from their head to their heart. It's no coincidence that she named her record label "Heartunes" - a reflection of her desire to create music and presentations that touch the spirit and tune the heart. in partnership with CDbaby User tags: Votes: Reviews: |
