Details:
Dr Sax have been together with various changes in line up for the last 6 years.
A band based around: funky grooves, tight musicianship, strong hooks and free wheeling improvisation.
The name of the band came from the titles of two seminal books written by Jack Kerouac, who pioneered a free flowing literary style that Dr Sax have tried to emulate in their music.
There have been three albums so far: The first, 'Appearing Soon On A Screen Near You ' (http://www.myspace.com/drsaxfunk) was recorded mostly in Channel House Studio (now home to Roni Size) and the song ideas reconstructed in Pro Tools. Released in 2001, this album was no 1 in the PeopleSound Jazz/Funk charts for a memorable 5 months with over 11,000 downloads.
Appearances at a number of festivals followed in 2002, most notably the internationally famous Glastonbury Festival on the Jazz World Stage and the album that followed at the end of the year, 'On the Road' (http://www.myspace.com/drsaxontheroad) featured studio tracks as well as a number of live recordings of performances from the festivals of 2002.
The new 3rd album, 'The Gospels According to Dr Sax' is now available (released Jan 2007) and features an all new rhythm section, new guitarists, new singers and also a gospel choir, hence the album name!
