FOLK: Modern Folk, POP: British Pop
Details:
Joe Lea was born in Manchester UK. His father was an Irishman and his Mother was from a gypsy family. He grew up with Irish folk music and lots of American influences such as Elvis, Jim Reeves etc.
In his teenage years Punk Rock happened and he saw the Sex Pistols. They were buying chips in his local Fish and Chip Shop before their gig at a venue called the Electric Circus which was at the end of Joe's street. Unfortunately he was too young to get in. He became a big fan of Joy Division and worked at The Hacienda where he saw The Undertones, New Order, William Burroughs, The Psychedelic Furs and many others.
He has lived in various parts of the UK but currently he is settled in the far West of Cornwall where he makes music and sleeps a lot.
His songs cover the whole range of human experience from 'We Will Return', a monumental exploration of second childhood, to 'Celebrity Harem', a light hearted look at life in a future peopled by celebrity endorsed anderoids. His songs are sometimes joyful, sometimes melancholic and at other times just plain funny.
