"Born and raised in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, Gold Country, among pine trees, acorns, deer, and snowfall. My mother speaks many languages; my father works outdoors. We have apple trees in the yard.

Played piano as young as they come. I loved words and so wrote poems; together these made songs. They sound like the country, echoes from hill tops, gospel choirs in small churches, pianos on street corners, drinks in old bars, harmonies in mouths.

The songs are like dreams, sleepy and vast, open and separated by space. I want to make something that speaks from my heart, but feels like it came from ages ago; something forgotten coming back to life.

Vandemark is the family name of lost relatives.

Two and a half years ago I left California, and now keep my residence in Jamaica Plain, Massachussetts. Having finished school, I find myself wondering what's next. Things I enjoy most are blackberries, anywhere that makes the sky look big, living creatures, community, Rickie Lee Jones, my parents house in winter, wildflowers, and the feeling before you fall in love."
