In the summer of 2006, a month before leaving for his first year at Oberlin College and Conservatory, Lionel O recorded Brontosaurus Breakfast in his basement. Armed with just a Mac, ProTools, and his bare wits, the album showcases Oâs penchant for creating witty, catchy lo-fi guitar pop. When you listen to Brontosaurus Breakfast, youâll hear traces of Shel Silverstein, Elliott Smith, David Bowie, and The Smashing Pumpkins. While Lionel Oâs music deals with some of the same things that a lot of Oâs peers deal with â leaving home, isolation, young love and heartbreak â he approaches them with painterly imagery and quirky humor seldom found in todayâs pop music. Nothing is taboo in Oâs world: Pirates, Telltale hearts (of the Poe variety), Aristotle, Monsters, Mysterious women, Giant robots, Brontosauruses, Peter Pan and the Notorious BIG all make appearances at Brontosaurus Breakfast.
