House of Mirrors is Robin Halpinâs second CD. Penned in 2005, the songs are written in the vintage spirit of the CDâs like Garden State through a modern songwriterâs lens. While illuminating reflections of people closest to her, Halpin sheds light on universal truths that touches lives far beyond her inner circle. Girl on the Wall is an homage to a basement wall mural that saw her through college years and war protests as âit stood for peace and love when life was unfair, we heard freedom call from the Girl on the Wall.â History portrays an unraveling relationship until thereâs nothing left but the past. Somethingâs Gotta Change tells the story of watching someone else struggle and feeling powerless to help them. Chris Smitherâs Bittersweet is a jaunty commentary weaving a wistful melody through the acoustic guitar as she laments, âNothing seems to hang on like it used to do.â Kalamazoo brings to mind Shawn Colvin as it tips the hat to the hometown where Halpin grew up.

Accompanied by producer/guitarist Matt Noble, these tracks sizzle with many different moods from John Lennon on Lavender Sky to Joni Mitchell on Everlasting Innocence. Ray Charles is alive on Look into My Soul, featuring a guest appearance from jazz pianist Mike Ricchuiti. One song, Perfect, is crafted simply as a fable of desperate love and jealousy between a raven and a fox while the song, Love is All There Is portrays a woman who takes an enormous leap of faith. Other featured performers include shining vocals by Jean Bratman, Carole Rowley and Zoe Silverman. A slow burner thatâs sure to warm and stir the soul.
