Bringing together country-folk guitar and vocal styles, jazz harmonies and sharp lyrics, Adam McBride-Smith's songs tell stories of loneliness and desire, with characters who are poised between staying and going, loving and leaving.

COUNTRY: Americana, FOLK: Urban Folk
Details:
"She came to the city with just her name, and a suitcase full of magazines...." The song "Into the Night" begins with these lines and goes on to tell the story of a young girl, "just 17" who moves to the city in search of a new life. It can be found on Adam McBride-Smith's first solo album "Good and Gone," which was released in May, 2007. Adam made his own move, from Oklahoma to New York, to work for a theater company and play music in the big city. While performing with the alt-country band "Tenkiller Twins," he began writing the songs that would eventually make up "Good and Gone." His songs reflect the tensions and trials of life in the city while tipping a hat to the country and folk music he grew up with. They are held together by insights that are both deeply personal and universal: "I want to leave you, but I don't want to be alone..." runs the refrain of one song (I Want to Leave You.) Indeed, many of the characters in Adam's songs find themselves caught between the lines in one sense or another. They evoke the internal divisions that define our lives with humor and poetic imagery. "Good and Gone" features Paul DeFiglia and Malachi DeLorenzo (aka the War Eagles) on bass and drums, Abe Streep on fiddle and mandolin, with other friends contributing saxophone, flute, trombone and vocals on some songs. It is fitting, given the themes of the album, that it was recorded in a converted factory in Brooklyn. Much of the record was also recorded live and it is full of the intimacy and collaborative warmth that comes from friends sitting down and playing music together. As a live performer, Adam McBride-Smith projects candor and soulful intimacy. He has played in both New York and Paris at such venues as The Knitting Factory and Au Chat Noir and will be touring the Southwestern U.S. this summer.
