FDR fan quotes (courtesy of myspace)
âHands Up was playing in the dream I had last night. It was a fine, fine soundtrack." - Colleen
"Amazing, infectious, can't these songs out my head. Great road trip songs." - Brian
"I wish I had know how great FDR is to dance to, or I would have brought my other shoes." - Kiera
"Listening to FDR was like seeing a festival with all my favorite bands; Modest Mouse, The Violent Femmes, The Mountain Goats, Magnetic Fields, Bright Eyes, Beck, and The Flaming Lips." - Dawn
"Is there nicotine in your music? cause I'm ADDICTED! My new favorite band." -Trish
FDR grew up in Jersey, lives in Brooklyn and spent a bunch of his years traveling around this great country. Hitchhiking, hopping freight trains, taking overnight bus routes through the deep south, working behind a bar in a rock club - FDR has been, and is still, on a journey . You might spot him in the background of a blurry photograph at a party for an underground poet in the village, or in a tuxedo at opening night at the met. Crashed out on a beach in Big Sur or driving all night to play a show in a roadside club near the Canadian border. He's at home with a glass of wine in your kitchen cooking you pasta and talking baseball, or backstage in LA in a smoke filled dressing room waiting to go on and play. These days FDR's a one man band writing and recording music that is as hard to pin down as the man himself. At times as danceable as the talking heads and as anthemic as Arcade Fire, the 10 songs on Pawnshop Romance come at you from many angles. You'll be moved, and you'll be surprised. Pawnshop Romance chronicles not just FDR's, but all of our adventures, heartbreaks and triumphs.
Pawnshop Romance is a follow up to 2006's 3 CD set, The New Deal. FDR completed The New Deal by writing and recording one song a day for 50 consecutive days. He worked each night in his apartment overlooking the FDR drive on the East Side of Manhattan, sometimes working until dawn to complete each night's new song. The New Deal is still available digitally through itunes.
