Childhood dreams of a hi-tech utopian future are crushed by the evildoers of the Cheney-Bush cabal, while climate change looms. Meanwhile celebrity and materialism rule popular culture, and the meaning of life remains a mystery. Those concerns influenced some of the tracks on 'leveler', but the album is not an entirely dark affair. Opener 'take heed' cryptically juxtaposes America's favorite activity (shopping) with the miracle of nature--and although squarely electronic, has a light, almost acoustic feel. Standout track 'with love' strikes a rare emotional tone while voice, rhythm and distortion merge seamlessly into a cohesive whole. Of the four purely instrumental tracks, the first two ('day pass' and 'integrator') feature driving percussion and subtly uplifting melodies, 'next' almost rocks, and 'parallel life' is sublime in its simplicity. Elsewhere, vocals are used more for color and suggestion than narrative, with a few exceptions. This is an album for seekers of truly independent, original meuzzik who do not rely on the opinions of reviewers. Enjoy!
