Here is their bio from 2003:
The Lazy Cowgirls
Three Cords and The Truth
The Lazy Cowgirls were formed in Los Angeles, California in 1983. Their music is rooted in the rock n roll of the 50s, 60s and 70s. Country, blues, early R&B, punk and folk are also major touchstones for the band. They've been described as Exile on Main Street era Rolling Stones meets the Ramones (with a sprinkling of Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks). High praise, but the Cowgirls have earned it.
Writer Jud Cost (Magnet, The Bob, Bucket Full of Brains and Sundazed A&R person) has called lead singer Pat Todd one of the best half-dozen front men of all time, and Ive seen them all. Besides being a dynamic front man, Todd's been the main songwriter and creative force behind the band for over 18 years. Hes filled with an energy and drive few can match. Joining Pat is Michael Leigh who might just be the greatest rock n roll guitar player in the world. Hes got style, taste and feel. Hes the perfect combination of Chuck Berry, Keith Richard, Johnny Thunders and Johnny Ramone. Hes also quite a force on stage. He has a presence full of energy and a solid flashiness. On the other side of the stage is Leonard Keringer on bass guitar. The counterpoint to guitarist Leigh, he can go from a stoic Bill Wyman stance during one song to bouncing off the walls on the next number. He seems to play bass and second guitar simultaneously. Keringer and Leigh also combine to do a great job on harmony and backing vocals, and with singer Todd, they make up the best frontline in rock n roll today. Meanwhile, drummer Roy Morgan keeps it all together. His simple style can be deceiving if you don't listen closely. His playing is powerful while doing no more than what the song needs.
In this day and age where image and attitude count for more than what they should, the Cowgirls do something most rock n roll bands are not able to do - they play songs!
In fact, the most underrated thing about the Cowgirls is how good they are musically, and how good their songs are. And what songs they are! They're cynical, hopeful, irreverent, tender and hard-nosed - usually all at the some time. They know life is full of contradictions, both right in front of us and in between the lines. Timeless subject mater from a timeless band.
In 2000 The Lazy Cowgirls released two acclaimed CDs, (Somewhere Down the Line and Rank Outsider) as well as three singles. In 2001 they released the Here and Now (Live!) CD and toured the U.S. and Canada.
The band has new CD entitled Im Goin Out And Get Hurt Tonight ready to go, over 20 unrecorded songs and is planning to tour Europe, Japan and America.
Buy their records, see them live and pay attention. Don't cheat yourself out of a small shot of wonder. Give and ye shall receive. They wont let you down I promise you.
