Pavel Petrov was born in Russia in 1981. He has concertized on three continents. His performances in Japan, England, Germany, Italy, Greece, Macedonia, Spain, the United States of America, and his native Russia have received critical acclaim. Pavel has performed at the Tchaikovsky State Museum in Moscow, Bolshoi Hall, the Rachmaninoff and Maly Halls at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. He also performed with the American Chamber of Commerce Orchestra and the Symphonic Orchestra of the Moscow Philharmonic Society. Additionally, he has appeared in the 2000-2001 Concert Season of Moscow State Conservatory.
Pavel has won awards and performance opportunities in Russia, Europe, and the United States. He was the Grand Prix winner in the first All-Russia Safonov Piano Competition in Moscow and the First prize winner of the First All-Russia Glinka Piano Competition in Moscow. He was a 4th prize winner of the 24th International Piano Competition in 1995 in Senigalia, Italy and the 2nd prize winner of the International Piano Competition sponsored by Oxana Yablonskaya in 2000 in Puegerta, Spain. Pavel was a 3rd Prize winner of the VI California International Young Artists Piano Competition in 2003 in Escondido, California, and in 2004 Pavel won 5th prize in the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has also won the International Charity Fund scholarship of "The New Names" and his name is listed in the Golden Book of this competition.
Pavel has participated in international music festivals in Japan, Macedonia, Spain, and the United States, some of which are: the 5th International Laureates Music Festival in Los Angeles, California and Taos, New Mexico; the "Virtuosos of the 21st century" in St. Petersburg, Russia; the Kanonji International Music Festival in Kanojij, Japan. He performed at the 2003 TCU/Cliburn Piano Institute, Texas in 2003.
He is a graduate of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatoire and the USC Thornton School of Music. Among Pavel's teachers were Professors Daniel Pollack, Valery Kastelsky and Sergey Dorensky. He has also attended the master classes of Professor Klaus Hellwig in Berlin, Germany. In 2004, Pavel received the Advanced Studies Diploma from the University of Southern California, Thornton School of Music.
Since his graduation, Pavel has been an organist at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Orange, California where he has presented numerous Organ and Piano recitals. His 2005 live recording double set CD, titled "Pavel Petrov Live" has been enthusiastically received. In addition to concertizing, Pavel is also an experienced teacher. Many of his students from his Orange County private piano studio have won awards in international piano competitions.
Pavel is a member of the Scriabin International Society and the Music Teachers Association of California (2006-present). In 2008, Pavel plans to pursue the doctorate program at the USC Thornton School of Music to work with the distinguished Professor Daniel Pollack. Currently, he is refining his skills under the mentorship of Professor Pollack.
