The group Aguilas Aztecas (English translation: Aztec Eagles) was created in the Cental California city of Fresno in 2002. The band consists of Jose Luis Martinez, Sr. on Drums and Vocals; his second oldest son Jose Luis Martinez, Jr. on Bass Guitar; his middle son Antonio on Keyboards and his youngest son David on Guitar.
Jose Sr. learned music very early in life. In a small town in Mexico, Joseâs father Epifanio Martinez taught Jose him how to sing and play guitar at a very young age. He even let young Jose play in his folk music band.
In his late teens, Jose Sr. decided to move from Mexico to California in search of a better life, to pursue the American Dream in the United States. Once in North America, Jose Sr. began performing in several Spanish language bands. He even performed in several opening acts for some of the biggest superstars in the Mexican music industry. After years of sacrifice without reward Jose Sr. made the conscious decision of quitting musical performance. He had since started his own landscaping company.
After a short hiatus, Jose Sr. opted to return to the music business, this time with his sons at his side. Armed with second hand instruments and crash coarse lessons in music the three sons were ready to hit the stage.
The group played at several weddings, Quicenietas, house parties and gathers and received very positive ovations (no beer bottles were thrown at them)!
Aguilas Aztecas recently made the move from Fresno to Las Vegas, created Aztec Empire Records and recorded their first album âComo Las Aguilasâ (English: âLike The Eaglesâ) which is now available at cdbaby.com!

Jose Luis Martinez, JR. actually penned the names "Aguilas Aztecas" and "Aztec Empire Records" and drew the âGiant Wingspan Eagle atop the Pyramid of the Sun in front of the Aztec Calender Tribal Sunâ logo, free hand, after several intense, mind raking brainstorming sessions. He is also the author of this awesome bio!
Not only is Jose Jr. a very well-versed bass guitar player, but he is also a self-educated wordsmith. After discovering his excellent literary talent in the third grade, he has since been chasing his ultimate dream of becoming a successful author. Who knows? Itâs never too late, or too early. The late twenties are the new... early twenties?
Jose Jr. currently lives in North Las Vegas with his long time girlfriend and their toddler son.

Antonio and David opted not to reveal too much of themselves this time around. Maybe next time!
