Born and raised in Long Beach, California, Art Reynolds attended Franklin Jr. High School, Long Beach Poly High and Cal State Long Beach. For 13 years, he played the piano and directed the choir for local Long Beach churches, including Grant Chapel A.M.E., St. Vestal, C.M.E., St. John Baptist and New Hope Baptist.

Art took the 5 best singers from his choir at the St. Vestal C.M.E. church and created the gospel singing group, the âArt Reynolds Singersâ. As the first gospel group to record for Capitol Records, they soon became pioneers in the development of âgospel rockâ. Many considered their music too secular for the time. Their first album âTellinâ It Like It Isâ, went on to become one of the biggest selling albums for a new gospel group. It received local and national acclaim. âJesus Is Just Alrightâ was the first song recorded by other groups from the âTellinâ It Like It Isâ album. The song was recorded and made famous by the Byrds, the Doobie Brothers and DC Talk. Four other albums followed: âLong Dusty Roadâ, âThe Soul-Gospel Sounds of the Art Reynolds Singersâ and âItâs a Wonderful Worldâ. Art later recorded an independent live gospel concert album titled, âA Work of Artâ. One of the original members of the Art Reynolds Singers was Thelma Houston, who went on to become a Grammy Award-winning singer with her recording of âDonât Leave Me This Wayâ, an anthem of the disco era. Art later changed the name of the group to the âArt Forms Limitedâ and produced 2 singles for RCA records, âIâm a Bad Manâ and âTime to Call It A Dayâ. Wolfman Jack described Artâs vocal on âIâm a Bad Manâ, as the birth of a new Isaac Hayes.

In the early 90âs, Art teamed with Bunny Hull to write the title song, âReady For A Miracleâ for the motion picture âLeap of Faithâ starring Steve Martin. Bunny had already received great accolades for writing âIâve Got a New Attitudeâ for Patti LaBelle. By the way, Patti LaBelle and Edwin Hawkins recorded âReady For a Miracleâ on the âLeap of Faithâ soundtrack album, which Time magazine called âmasterfulâ. Also, DC Talkâs version of âJesus Is Just Alrightâ remained No. 1 on the Gospel Charts for over 21 weeks.

The National Football League Playerâs Association commissioned Art and Joey Guerra to write original music for a video about the association which is currently shown to all new NFL players.

Over the ensuing years, Art focused his writing skills on three types of music: gospel, dance and ballads. Now he is currently producing and writing material for other artists.

In June 2003 "Ready for a Miracle" was featured in the Jim Carrey film "Bruce Almighty" and was part of the advertising trailer for the film.

In 2004, âJesus Is Just Alrightâ was featured in the trailer for the film âSavedâ.

In 2007, "Jesus Is Just Alright" was used in the new Simpson's first feature-length animated film and "Ready For A Miracle" was recorded by LeAnn Rimes and used in the trailer and the film for "Evan Almighty" starring Steve Carell and Morgan Freeman. "Leap Of Faith" is currently in development as a Broadway musical with great promise.
