Kenneth Reese is a classically trained pianist from Detroit, Michigan. His love for the piano began at a very early age. As a child he would travel to his brother and sisterâs piano lesson. Being intrigued, he would take their piano books and teach himself how to play. He had been blessed as a child to be able to play on a Story & Clark grand piano which his mother won on Letâs Make a Deal in 1968. To this day he still has the piano in his home.

As a young teenager Kenneth was fortunate enough to study privately under the illustrious Maria Meirelles. Aside from Kennethâs parents, Miss Meirelles was very instrumental in his musical journey. It was she who was the first to notate one of Kennethâs earliest piano pieces. After high school, Kenneth attended Hampton University where he majored in Piano Performance. There he studied under and was mentored by the great African American composer, conductor, and educator, Dr. Roland Carter. Kenneth would later go on to Wayne State University where he continued studying piano under the awesome direction of another consummate professional pianist, Dr. Doris Richards.

Mr. Reese has been greatly influenced by music from the Impressionistic Era; such greats as Claude Debussy, Frederic Chopin, Maurice Ravel and the like. He has also been greatly influenced by other great contemporary composers, namely George Winston. In particular, Kenneth recalls one favorite piano piece by George Winston entitled âThanksgiving.â

âThe Secret Placeâ is the first of Kenneth Reeseâs solo piano collections. This recording features a style of composition that Kenneth calls âSacred Improvisational Piano.â It is a technique he has coined to describe how his piano music came about. âThis CD is a collection of solo piano pieces that were totally improvised at the piano and captured on tape. They were either piano interpretations of scripture or prophetically inspired pieces that declare a sacred message in song.â âThe Secret Placeâ is a Contemporary Instrumental recording that will be sure to take you on a journey to a place of peace and rest.
