Details:
Laura Boggs is a twenty-four year old librarian who also happens to rock. Her music, which she has lovingly deemed Alt-Folk Indie Americana, has left instant fans in her wake for the past five years. Combining a sharp lyrical manner with a voice no one can deny, Laura has made quite the impression on the Albany, NY area. The Metroland's Eric Hage praised Whiskey and Springtime for its "rootsy, sparse and dreamy folk ruminations and occasionally straight-up old-timeyness." The Times Union's Greg Haymes liked it so much that he named it one of his Best Local CD's of 2006, calling it "Timeless, haunting acoustic singer-songwriter stuff that stretches beyond the folk realm."
Her other interests include craftivism, fashion, and wine. She is currently learning Russian and banjo.
Whiskey and Springtime, Laura's first studio album, was recorded in the fall of 2006, produced by Harith Abdullah and Jared Funari, in Funari's home studio, the Basement. It features such guests as Funari, Joe Burke, and knotworking's Mike Hotter and Megan Prokorym. It was released by The Rev Records on November 19, 2006.
Laura was named the Best Female Singer-Songwriter in the Metroland's Best of the Capital Region 2006, and they had this to say about her:
"The lovely Laura Boggs has been a bright spot in the local folk scene for a few years now as a regular at open mics and performing solo shows. Boggs' upbeat, gentle demeanor endears her to audiences young and old. Her writing style is clever and accessible, and her croon is reminiscent of Natalie Merchant. Boggs' enchanting-but-not-cutsie songs have a sensibility that make them all her own, with the added charm of a random French ballad, or Shel Silverstein poem that she'd set to music. Bonus: We hear she plans on running in the next mayoral election."
