Nam Ninja is an artist, a musician's musician. His songs are sung with a guitar, sometimes a beat, or live drums yet I don't know how to really classify his playing style except to say that it is powerful, amazing, different and familiar, all at the same time. His self-titled Debut Album is an outstanding achievement for do-it-yourself artists. Having no money to back the recording, and no one to help him, this kid off ths streets, wrote, sang, played guitar, made beats, drummed, recorded and produced his album all by himself. It is obvious, the amount of love put into this album from the artwork which was hand drawn by Johnnie Dominguez (www.myspace.com/johnniedominguez) to the detail put in the production with the use of samples (Beatles influenced). Only a professional could make the distinction that this album was not recorded in a studio, but nonetheless the sound quality is just as good as anything else if not better. The album is very organic, each song tells a story and Nam Ninja's use of samples help to accentuate a deeper meaning behind the simple yet meaningful lyrics. His words and the way he sings them have an authenticity and sincerity that are touching. This is an album you have to listen to obsessively to appreciate it's beauty. This a great debut album!!
