13 MP3 Songs
URBAN/R&B: Funk, BLUES: Dirty Blues
Details:
Chocolate Sock is the new gospel funk album from P-Theory. P-Theory are a BAND, operating as one despite 4,000 miles of sea separating key members.
Chocolate Sock is the second album from P-Theory since they hooked up with their legendary frontman Kevin Goins. Building on the foundations laid by their first album together (From The Hood To The Wood), The new album again captures a live performance of a group of highly experienced musicians locking in on a groove and letting it flow.
Although written and recorded live over 2 days in November 2006 (in a 1,000 year old church in rural England) Chocolate Sock offerâs structured songs with defined arrangements and appropriate hooks throughout. Only P-Theory could manage to pull this off in 2 days, with Godâs blessing. This is testament to the levels of skill and experience that the band enjoys and clearly demonstrates their united vision of the funk, with God's blessing.
The decision to record a gospel album was a very easy one for P-Theory to make, in recognition of the blessings that God has bestowed on the band. It would be ridiculous to reason that the circumstances under which the album was made were due to anything other than divine intervention. I mean, do you think it is coincidence that some white boys from middle England have become best friends and musical partners with a music legend from the exact opposite of their culture and geography?
Was it a coincidence that after the only recording studio that was available to them closed down, and the local church was also to close down through lack of activity? Was it an accident that the local rural community refused to let the church close and embraced the idea of a loud funk band recording music in the church that has been a place of worship since Viking times (and probably before)? Is it a coincidence that P-Theory treated the church, and everyone involved with the project with total respect, (including our partners) who allowed this to happen despite huge infringement on them personally?
Who said the Devil has the best grooves? Weâve never sat at a crossroads and sold our souls, we asked for help and we were answered. We thank him for his grace and mercy that has taken us this far, and we know he will never leave us.
Peace, Love & Unity with the Lord

P-THEORY - CHOCOLATE SOCK
TCC/TFS Release Date:6/18/2007
LABEL: P-THeory WorldWide
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN : United Kingdom
ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE:N/A
DISC : 1
CONDITION:IMPORT/NEW
STOCK STATUS:*INSTOCK* USUALLY SHIPS IN 24/48Hrs
On one of the most anticipated funk releases of the year, P-Theory with Kevin Goins follows-up the stellar âFrom the Hood to the Woodâ with a record that basks in its own glorious natural uniqueness by taking hard funk back to its natural root, the church.
Kevinâs voices are of course, divine sent (somân about the Goins DNA) and he uses them to sing praises and worship on High. His tones on the spine-tingling âI Want Jesusâ will surely bring his brother Glenn's to mind for a lot of folks.
P-Theoryâs musical accompanying continues its usual thick and slangy, loose and tight salacious globs of bottom and horns splattering all in and around this swarthy beat.. The birthing country downstroke of â3 Strokes Grannyâ. Check the rumbling funk of âWhat Would I Do Without Youâ, another gospel-tinged funker that features at times Kevin even reworking Parliamentâs âSwing Lowâ!!
The band and rhythm section change-up tempos and grooves at the drop of a J. Easily going from gentle acoustic introâs (âSaturday Nightâ âP-Theory Prayerâ) on thru foot-stomping gut-bucket funk (âYour Love is Like a Sunday Morningâ). Grooving and vamping to the max on tracks like âThank God I Saw Before I Lostâas K. Goins just busts loose over the later stanzas of an oozing pulsing, funkdafried gospel. Redemption bobba, free to you from, not the friendly ghost , but alas, the power of the Holy Ghost.
And zeeper still on another soul-sanctifying gospel/blues number, âWhen Iâve Done the Best I Canâ, Kevin brings up memories of classic Joe Ligon of the Mighty Clouds. Although my fave of the set is the spacey, âBritish Are Comingâ which for some reason takes me to Detroit-era Counts, but thatâs another story.
I can really dig the âdriving-thru-the-London fogâ churning sound of the whole lp. I can only imagine rolling thru the English countryside and coming upon Ye Olde Pub and finding this groove coalition throwing down on the wee hours of Sunday morning . Only to catch âem bright and early the following morning at the church next door. WOW.
