The Band, SEATBELT and the PECKING ORDER, was formed in the hills of San Pedro in 2004 as SS and Flowbee were sitting on the backporch pickinâ a couple of hillbilly tunes, when all of a sudden a blinding light caught their attention. They looked up to see what looked like some sort of space ship coming down, but of course they didnât believe in such things, so they both did double takes until they saw the craft set down near their moonshine still! Racing over to protect their âproductâ, they stood transfixed as the door opened and out stepped two extra-terrestrials.

âWe need jet fuel. Do you have any?â asked the bigger of the two.

âNope. Got some moonshine, though, and itâs mighty powerful stuff!â

âMay we purchase all you have at fair market value?â asked the uglier one.

âHeck yes!â answered SS and Flowbee in unison, and that was the birth of their harmony style. After the moonshine was loaded and paid for, the aliens and the future members of SEATBELT and the PECKING ORDER knocked back a couple tumblers of the moonshine, and as always happens, started pickinâ and singinâ, only this time the aliens joined in and what a sound! Like nothing on this Earth! Hillbilly harmonies with rockinâ grooves from out of this world! Unfortunately, soon the aliens had to leave to conquer the universe, and no amount of pleading by our boys would make them stay and form a group. SEATBELT and the PECKING ORDER was formed when SS and Flowbee, looking to replicate the sound they made with the aliens, hooked up with their old pal Mark âSmittyâ Smith to twang those low notes and fill in the gap left by the tall alien and the ugly alien. So the band now consists of SS McLean, guitar and shoutinâ, Tex âFlowbeeâ Aubergine on drum cans and harmonizing, and Mark âSmittyâ Smith on the bass and more harmonizing. The band has been playing in the San Pedro-Long Beach area and surrounding environs ever since. They have just released their first full-length CD on Middleman Industries, a 14-tune opus of all original material titled âModern Sounds in Pagan Love Songsâ. They are currently working on a reunion tour of outer space.
