Biography
Amanda Gordon â R&B Singer/Songwriter
South London native Amanda Gordon (born Cleo Amanda Gordon Feb. 26th 1988) is one of four siblings. Getting into the professional side of music two years ago, at the age of 17, was an unsurprisingly hard but long-awaited transition for Amanda because she had been singing ever since she started talking. The young rising star grew up and lived in London until she was 16 when she moved to California with her mother.
With her upcoming single âDaddyâs Little Girl,â Gordon reveals a part of her real life to the public while staging her writing talents to the heart-felt song. âThis song is one I hold close to my heart. It has a sad feel to it but without being depressing, and you can definitely sing along with it.â The song portrays the story of a young girl whoâs father is often absent and desperately wanted by his estranged daughter. âI know that many women and girls can relate to the words because itâs so real.â
There was always a deep passion for singing in her heart but she admits she was slightly shy to sing publicly when she was very young. That shyness soon disappeared as Gordon grew older and started participating in talent shows as well as the her secondary school choir, which brought her to sing classical music with greats such as The Bach Choir singing the âAfrican Sanctusâ on stage in front of hundreds of people, and the musical âAnnieâ at her secondary school.
However, the creativity didnât stop there. The hyperactive youngster sometimes wrote songs for fun too. Now, at the age of 19 years old, she is professionally writing for and working on her first album and it only makes her happy to perform for people and show off her talent. The album will contain âa proficient mix of music taking you from slow R&B and Jazz, like the song âThis Lonely Place,â to more up-tempo beats of Urban and Reggae, like âDance All Night.ââ âThat song is one of my favoritesâ¦the beat just pumps right through my chest and makes me dance which is what itâs supposed to do to everyone.â Her love for dancing comes from the tradition of her familyâs Jamaican heritage; in this culture dancing is a big part of life and Gordon vows to continue representing her heritage.
The young woman promises to bring forth some âfreshness from Europe with a little island twistâ to the music game with her upcoming album which is set to hit stores some time during 2007. âI donât want people to hear the same old thing they listen to on the radio everyday. I need change in order to be original and have longevity and thatâs exactly what I want to achieve.â She personifies the words confidence, passion and creativity with an urban and classy style and this surely shows through her songs.
Gordon is the first artist to launch from her motherâs independent record label Higher Levels Productions, which she strongly represents.
Be on the look out for her debut single âDaddyâs Little Girlâ due to shake the nation on Fatherâs Day June 17, 2007. Sheâll tug on some heart strings with this song, however, youâll never forget infectious smile of Amanda Gordon.
The single "Daddy's Little Girl" also includes these three other songs from her upcoming album: "Whatever," "Endure the Weather," and "Dance all Night."
