Young Jane is a compilation of traditional Irish folk music performed on 12-string and acoustical guitars, as well as vocals on several tunes from the British Isles and Australia. Three of the songs featuring the soldiers' plights during World War I. The album, Young Jane, is dedicated to Joe's mother, Mary Jane Baldassarre, who passed away in 1998.

Joe Baldassarre holds a doctorate in classical guitar performance and is director of guitar studies and music history at Boise State University. He started reading music at age 4 under his father's tutelage and guitar lessons under jazz great Jimmy Hall when he was 6. By age 13 he was a regular on local Cleveland TV and radio, as well as a serving as studio guitarist through the late 60's and early 70's, recording acetates for several top labels and national commercials.

He began studying classical guitar in the early 60's under Miguel Alcazar, eventually studying with Jorge Morel, Miguel Rubio, Loris Chobanian, and a private audience with Andres Segovia. He began his interest in early music in his undergraduate years, focusing on the lute as well as wind and percussion instruments.

Throughout his career, he continued to perform rock, jazz, folk, country, classical and early music at a blistering rate. He was once dubbed "Idaho's hardest working musician", working as a lead guitarist, bassist or drummer in bands, or as a solo artist in folk and classical venues.
