Rusty Brown wanted to be a punk rocker but his older brother told him Deep Purple, Free, and Led Zeppelin were required listening in their family and there are elements of all three in the music of Electric Mary. Rusty grew up and formed his first bands,âThe Repeatersâ, âThe Shyboysâ and in 1998 âMr Brownâ. They recorded two albums and built up a strong following in Melbourne. They can also count amongst their fans Little Steven whom Rusty met whilst he was touring Australia. Little Steven still regularly plays Mr Brown on his Internet radio show, http://www.littlesteven.com

In 2003 Rusty was in New York where he visited Electric Ladyland studios to catch some of the Hendrix vibe, there he was shown round by the studio manager, a very nice lady called Mary. The name of the new band suddenly became clear.

Rusty met Irwin Thomas at a dinner and they became fast friends. Rusty was heavily involved in Irwinâs âThe Evolution Of Irwin Thomasâ album. They have been best mates since that first meeting and, although Irwin is a solo artist in his own right, he still writes with Rusty and plays guitar in Electric Mary. The project with Irwin took four years so nothing happened with Electric Mary until 2003 when Rusty decided it was time to get this old school rock band he had always dreamt of started.

The five songs on this EP plus the eleven others already completed represent the journey of the band so far. We believe this is ârock, the way it used to taste!â


IRUSTU Records is the collective effort of IRwin (Thomas), RUsty (Brown) and STUart (Fraser). Irwin & Rusty are the creative department and, as well as being artists, are also involved with A&R for the label. Stuart Fraserâs management background in music consists of an eighteen year career with major music retailer HMV, working in the UK, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and lastly as Managing Director of HMV Australia & South East Asia.
