Gabe Vitek and the Ivory bring an advanced style of pop/jazz fusion to the Indie rock scene. From a business standpoint, the key idea for the Ivory is commercial versatility - on and off the stage. Live, the band can share the bill with a wide range of musical genres and fit in perfectly, providing for more booking options than most bands. Listeners can detect influences ranging from the modern jazz of Jamie Cullum to the experimental rock sounds of Radiohead, and will be delighted to find that the Ivory sound can be comfortably shuffled in with cds from some of todayâs most popular artists such as John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, and Damien Rice. Vitek also credits the bandâs distinctive sound to past generation musical legends including Paul Simon, James Taylor, Michael Jackson, and, most importantly, The Beatles. Gabeâs songwriting draws from a wide range of genres, and as a result his songs are uniquely versatile. Every original song played or recorded by the Ivory started out as a simple piano/vocal melody written by Vitek. The songs operate around catchy melodies and intricate harmonies- two aspects necessary to hit songs in virtually every genre of music. Most importantly, Gabe has been working hard to take advantage being surrounded by experienced songwriters in Nashville. Nashville songwriters working with him have expressed a genuine awareness of Gabeâs natural talent to write a potential hit song for nearly any genre of music. Although Gabe Vitekâs current Ivory lineup has only been together for a few months, the band looks and sounds as though they have been playing together for years. Gabe has extensive knowledge and skill at both Piano and Drums, as he began studying at Belmont as a Drum major, but decided to narrow his focus and became a Piano major. The rest of the Ivory are all Belmont music majors. Watching the band live at an assortment of venues with varied crowd sizes, one cannot help but notice that Gabe Vitek and the Ivory go out of their way to tailor each live performance into a one of a kind experience. It is easy to recognize that the live set is played for the audience, rather than just to them. Because of the intimate mood the Ivory creates, it is not uncommon to see an audience silenced by a dedicated fascination, or singing along to one of the many catchy melodies.
